Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - RailCats catcher Ryan Babineau was the hero for the second straight night, hitting a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning in the RailCats 6-5 win over the Tornadoes on Saturday night. The RailCats have won seven of their last 10 games to improve to 23-31 on the season.

With the game tied at five in the top of the ninth, Babineau hit a line shot that just cleared the eight-foot high wall in left to put the RailCats on top. Babineau also hit a go-ahead two-run blast in the eighth inning of the RailCats 7-6 comeback win on Friday night.

Jerod Edmonson hit a leadoff homer in the first inning off of Will Krout to give the Tornadoes a 1-0 lead.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the second, Mike Massaro hit a three-run double to left to put the RailCats on top 3-1.

Edmonson came back for more in the third, hitting a solo shot to right, his second of the game to trim the RailCats lead to one.

Chris Carrara, who sat out the past two games with illness, hit an RBI single to center in the fifth to exted the 'Cats lead to 4-2. Edmonson got the run back in the bottom of the inning with a run-scoring single.

Babineau slapped an RBI single to right in the sixth that gave the RailCats a 5-3 lead. He entered Friday night with no home runs and three RBI on the season, and now has four RBI in the last two games. Babineau also had just one career homer, back in 2008, before Friday's game.

Krout threw a quality start, holding the Tornadoes to three runs in 6 2/3 in a no-decision. Worcester starter Michael Gedman set a Can-Am League record by issuing 11 walks, but did not factor in the decision.

The Tornadoes tied the game in the eighth on a two-run bomb to left by Chris Torres, setting the stage for Babineau's ninth-inning heroics.

David Quinowski (3-1) pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning for the win, while Chris Allen threw a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

The RailCats lead the series 2-1, with the series finale scheduled for 3:05 Central Time on Sunday. Starting pitchers have not been announced for either club.
