Binghamton Senators News Release


LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (2-3-0-0, 4 pts.) were 1-1 in their road series with Norfolk, including a 5-1 victory on Saturday night.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19th vs. NORFOLK (1-5 L): Norfolk jumped out to a 3-0 lead before rookie Cody Bass netted his first marker of the season midway through the second period. Wingers Greg Mauldin and Jeremy Yablonski assisted on the goal. Norfolk responded with two third-period markers to make it a 5-1 final. Norfolk held Binghamton to a season low 18 shots, including four in the final period. Netminder Brian Elliott saw his first action of the season for Binghamton, allowing five goals in just under 47 minutes between the pipes.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20TH vs. NORFOLK (5-1 W): The B-Sens responded on Saturday night with an offensive explosion. Following an early Norfolk goal off the stick of Justin Taylor, the B-Sens ran off five unanswered goals. Captain Denis Hamel got things started for Binghamton. Hamel, who collected his 400th AHL point last weekend against Hershey with an assist, took a feed from rookie Alexander Nikulin and buried it past netminder Ryan Munce for his first marker of the season. Danny Bois followed with his second short-handed tally of the season to give the B-Sens the 2-1 advantage. Binghamton carried the momentum into the second period with winger Greg Mauldin striking just 42 seconds into the middle stanza to extend Binghamton's lead to 3-1. Rookies Brian Lee and Ilya Zubov assisted on the tally. After a quiet 17 minutes, center Cody Bass buried his second marker in as many nights. Hamel buried an unassisted marker to make it a 5-1 final.

THIS WEEK: The B-Sens host the Hershey Bears on Friday night before hitting the road against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Saturday) and Rochester (Sunday). This will be the first three games in three days stretch for the B-Sens this season.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26TH vs. HERSHEY (7:05): The Senators host the Bears for the second time this season. Binghamton broke into the win column with a 5-2 victory on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Hershey. Ray Emery, assigned to Binghamton for condition, turned away 46 shots to lead the B-Sens to victory. The 46 saves tied his AHL career high. Winger Niko Dimitrakos paced the Senators attack with two goals. The Bears struggled out of the gates this season, dropping their first three games before defeating Rochester on Sunday, Oct. 21. Winger Chris Bourque leads the Bears with five points (3+2=5).

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27th @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (7:05): The Senators travel down I-81 to play rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the first time this season. The Penguins snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night. Winger Jeff Taffe's hat trick pushed the Penguins to victory.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28th @ ROCHESTER (6:05): The Rochester Americans have played more games (9) than any other AHL team thus far. The Amerks have struggled early, posting a 2-5-1-1 record including a five-game losing streak. Defenseman Tim Hambly leads the Amerks with six points (3+3=6), while winger Grant Stevenson has five points (2+3=5) and a +4 rating.

SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: Two Binghamton Senators will make an appearance at Zion Lutheran School in Owego on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 1:15 p.m. The 3rd Annual Binghamton Senators Charity Golf Classic, which took place at Endwell Greens on Tuesday, Oct. 9, raised more than $20,000 for the Family Enrichment Network.

SENS SNIPPETS: Winger Danny Bois played in 218 regular season AHL games before registering his first AHL short-handed tally. He now has two in the last three games. Captain Denis Hamel topped the 400 point plateau with an assist on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Hershey. Rookies Alexander Nikulin and Ilya Zubov each have four points (1+3=4). Defenseman Lawrence Nycholat registered a +4 rating against Norfolk on Saturday night.
