LAST GAME: The Reading Fightin Phils scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, including the game-winner on a wild pitch by Jeff Walters, to beat the B-Mets, 7-6, on Tuesday night. The B-Mets overcame an early deficit with a two-out, four-run rally in the seventh, but allowed three unanswered runs in their fifth walk-off loss of the season. Allan Dykstra delivered the big knock for the B-Mets in the seventh with a three-run home run. Starter Erik Goeddel allowed four runs in 5.2 innings in a no-decision.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Darin Gorski makes his 10th start of the season for the B-Mets, and his first against Reading. In his last start he earned the win against the Altoona Curve on August 8. In the win he threw 7.2 shutout innings and scattered four hits. Over his last three starts, he has thrown 23.2 innings and only allowed two earned runs. In 51.0 innings with the B-Mets, opponents are hitting .159 against the southpaw. He has struck out 27 batters in 51.0 innings of work. He has not allowed more than two runs in any of his 10 appearances with Binghamton in 2013. He was drafted by the Mets in the seventh round of the 2009 draft out of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
READING STARTER: RHP Brody Colvin makes his 12th start of the season for Reading and his second against Binghamton. On July 23, he got a no-decision after scattering two hits in 4.1 innings. In each of his last three starts, Colvin has not received a decision. Brody has made eight different appearances out of the bullpen. Opponents are hitting .272 against Colvin in 71.0 innings on the mound. As a starter, he is 2-2 with a 6.88 ERA. He was drafted by the Phillies in the seventh round of the 2009 draft out of St. Thomas More HS .
BLOWN SAVE: Last night Jeff Walters blew his third save of the season. He leads the league with 33 saves, and is the B-Met single-season franchise leader in that category. Tuesday was the first save opportunity Walters has not converted since June 8. He had earned the save in each of his last 20 save chances. The all-time franchise leader in saves is Tim Lavigne, who had 36 saves from â02-'05, and â08.
BACK FROM THE DL: In eight games since returning from the DL, Cory Vaughn is 11-for-29 with two doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, and five runs scored. Vaughn has had two four-RBI games since returning, and now has 43 RBI in 2013. He missed 38 games on the disabled list from June 8 - July 23 with a right elbow strain.
OH, OH IT'S MAGIC: Binghamton's magic number to clinch a playoff spot sits at 5. Their magic number to secure the Eastern Division remains at 11. The B-Mets have not made the postseason since 2004 nor won a division title since 2000.
WHEN LEADING AFTER 7: Tuesday's loss was only the second loss for the B-Mets this season when leading after seven innings. Binghamton's record when winning after seven innings is now 65-2. When leading after eight frames, the B-Mets are 56-2.
WALK-OFF WILD PITCH: Tuesday was Binghamton's fifth walk-off loss this season. They are 4-5 in walk-offs, and have lost twice on wild pitches. John Church uncorked a wild pitch which ended the game on April 23 at Portland in the 10th inning.
DYKSTRA MATCHES CAREER-HIGH: Allan Dykstra hit his 19th home run of the season on Tuesday, matching his career-high. He also hit 19 with the B-Mets in 2011. Allan is hitting .288 in 2013; his career-high for a full season is .267 with the B-Mets in 2011.
HITS ALLOWED: The 14 hits allowed by the B-Mets last night was the most allowed by the pitching staff since allowing 19 hits on July 12 vs. Portland.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets conclude their six-game roadtrip against the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM, as the B-Mets send RHP Greg Peavey against Major League rehabber Jonathan Pettibone.
