(Portland, ME) - Binghamton's (31-54) 3B Shawn Bowman snapped a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring single in top of the eighth inning and the Mets held on to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (41-44) 2-1 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field in front of 6,575 fans. The Sea Dogs won the series by taking 2 of 3 from the B-Mets and host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday.
RHP Dylan Owen (2-5) turned in a terrific outing for the Binghamton Mets, hurling 7 strong innings on five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts to pick up the win. LHP Roydrick Merritt pitched a perfect eighth to earn his 3rd hold of the season. RHP Connor Robertson struck out in the side in the ninth inning to notch his second save of the year.
LHP Andrew Dobies (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing the winning run in the eighth inning. Dobies yielded three hits, one run and one walk over 2 IP.
Binghamton started the game with consecutive hits off LHP Felix Doubront (ND, 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO). CF Emmanuel Garcia doubled and SS Jose Coronado lined a single to center. 1B Ike Davis drew a walk to load the bases and Bowman drove in the game's first run with sac-fly to right field.
Portland tied the game at one with an unearned run off Owen in the fifth inning due to his error. With one out, RF Reid Engel laced a single and advanced all the way to third base when a pick-off throw by Owen sailed down the right-field line. 2B Ryan Khoury drove in his 25th run of the season with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Sea Dogs open up a 4-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) on Friday night beginning at 7:00 PM at Hadlock Field. RHP Jarod Plummer (6-4, 4.07) goes opposite RHP Marty McLeary (1-1, 3.57) in the series opener. Notes...Portland's top 3 hitters (Reddick, Kalish and Jimenez) went a combined 0-for-16...SS Argenis Diaz had two hits - both singles...Khoury picked up his team-leading 48th walk of the season (3rd in the Eastern League)...RHP Chad Rhoades hurled two scoreless frames with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
