Emaus doubles twice and Mastroianni drives in two for Fisher Cats

(Trenton, NJ)---Darin Mastroianni doubled in a run to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning and hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, but Trenton went on to top the Fisher Cats 7-3 at Mercer County Waterfront Park on Thursday afternoon.

Ryan Pope (3-6) allowed three runs in six innings to pick up his first win for the Thunder in nearly two months. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four batters.

Trenton (42-43) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Kenny Rodriguez. Reegie Corona walked and scored on a triple by Noah Hall.

The Fisher Cats battled back to take the lead in the top of the second inning. Consecutive doubles by Brad Emaus (2-for-3, 2 2B, R, BB) and Mastroianni (1-for-3, 2 RBI, SF, R) produced the tying run. Mastrioanni then moved up on a Bryan Kervin grounder and scored on a fielders choice grounder by Al Quintana when he beat the Trenton throw home.

The Thunder took the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Trenton started the frame with three consecutive singles by Noah Hall (4-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Jorge Vazquez (2-for-4, 2 R) and Jose Montero. With the bases loaded, Chris Malec (1-for-4, 2 RBI) grounded out to tie the game at 2-2 as Hall scored. Edwar Gonzalez then hit a sacrifice fly to put Trenton up 3-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, Brian Dopirak singled, moved to third on an Emaus double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mastroianni as New Hampshire tied the game at 3-3.

Trenton batted around and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hall and Vazquez again opened the inning with singles, Malec doubled Hall in for a 4-3 lead. After the Fisher Cats intentionally walked Kyle Anson, Edgar Estanga came on in relief of Kenny Rodriguez and walked Justin Snyder before giving up a two-run single to Austin Krum.

Rodriguez (1-1) allowed seven runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings and suffered the loss. The Fisher Cats continue the seven-game road trip on Friday night in Portland. New Hampshire sends right-hander Marty McLeary (1-1, 3.57) to the mound at 7:00pm. The Sea Dogs counter with right-hander Jared Plummer (6-4, 4.07). Following the Eastern League All-Star break, the Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday, July 16, to open a four-game series against the Northern Division-leading Connecticut Defenders at 7:05pm on Jewish Pride Night.
