Today, the SeaWolves take on the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) in the rubber game of a three-game series at Blair County Ballpark. The âWolves took the first game of the series, 19-2, handing Altoona its worst loss in the 11-year history of the team. The Curve battled back shutting out the âWolves in the second game 1-0, limiting Erie to just four hits. Erie needs a victory today to avoid dropping its third straight series to the Curve. The âWolves are 6-3 at BCB this season and the âWolves need one win in the final five games against the Curve to pick up the season series win...Following last night's loss, the âWolves are 9.5 games behind first place Akron. With second place Reading and third place Bowie both dropping their contests last night, Erie remains 2.5 games behind the second place R-Phils and a half game behind the third place Baysox.
Beginning tomorrow, Erie will play 19 games against just two opponents (BNG 7 and AKR 12)...Erie's scheduled starter, Luis Marte, has been scratched from today's start due to right shoulder stiffness. Marte will not be placed on the DL and is scheduled to pitch in the back end of the rotation following the All-Star break...Lefty Ramon Garcia will get the nod as a spot starter for the âWolves. Garcia is making his sixth appearance against the Curve. He is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA in five relief appearances against Altoona. Garcia is also making his fourth start. He has three no-decisions as a starter with a 2.31 ERA...This season, Erie is 5-2 following a shutout loss...Erie is hitting .295 over the last 10 games and the club has a 6-4 record over that span. Alex Avila is hitting .378 (14x37) over his last 10 games.
