Sunday, July 27, 2014 - Game #107 - Road Game #54
Arm & Hammer Park - Trenton, NJ - 1:05 PM
LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used a four-run seventh inning to top the Trenton Thunder, 10-7, on Saturday. The B-Mets sent ten batters to the plate in the seventh inning. Dilson Herrera went 3-for-5 with a three run home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Brian Burgamy and Darrell Ceciliani each tallied two hits. Randy Fontanez and Cody Satterwhite shutout the Thunder over the final three frames. Satterwhite worked out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his tenth save. The teams combined for 30 hits.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara makes his 15th start of the season and his first against Trenton. The Bani, Dominican Republic native didn't factor into the decision in this last outing. He tossed 5.1 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out four in a 4-3 Binghamton loss to Portland on Tuesday, July 22. The game was the seventh outing that Lara has allowed two runs or less. He was on the disabled list from 6/5 - 6/23 with a left ankle sprain. The righty was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on October 31, 2009.
TRENTON STARTER: LHP Manny Banuelos toes the rubber for the 15th time with Trenton and his 14th start. The south paw didn't allow a run in his last outing. He gave up just two his and struck out five, but didn't factor into the deci-sion in a 3-0 Thunder loss on Tuesday, July 22. It was the first time he went more than 3.1 innings in an outing this season. In one other start against the B-Met, Banuelos went 3.1 frames, gave up three runs on three hits, but was sad-dled with the loss in a 8-4 Binghamton win on July 17. The Gomez Palacio, Mexico native was signed by the Yankees as a free agent in 2008.
I GUESS THIS IS GOOD-BYE: Sunday is the final regular season meeting of the season between Binghamton and Trenton. The B-Mets hold a 4-3 advantage through the first seven games and have outscored the Thunder 40-32. Bing-hamton starting pitchers are 3-1 against Trenton and have allowed 14 runs in 42.2 innings. The unit has walked 11 and has struck out 35 in those games. That almost seven K's per outing.
THAT'S TRIPLE DIGITS: Dilson Herrera's fifth inning three-run home run was the 101st of the season for Binghamton. The B-Mets leads the league in that category with eight more than any other squad in the league. Six teams don't have as many as 80 long balls. Three current B-Mets have at least 12 home runs. Every position player on the roster and one pitcher have gone yard. The pitcher was Tyler Pill on June 19 against Richmond. 34 of those home runs have come in this month alone.
BURG TO THE BASE: Binghamton INF Brian Burgamy has reached base in each of his last eight games. That includes two hits in Thursday's game. The East-ern League mid-season all-star has four multi-hit outings during that stretch. He has 22 multi-hit games in 2014, is tied for the team lead with 18 home runs and is third in the Eastern League with 51 walks.
KEEPING THEM IN IT: Gabriel Ynoa's five inning out-ing on Saturday marked the 23rd straight appearance that a B-Met starter has gone at least five frames. That's every game, but one in the month of July.
MOWING THEM DOWN: Binghamton and Trenton are the top two teams in the league in strikeouts by pitchers. The B-Mets are first in that category with 832, while the Thunder are second with 818. The units have combined to send down 52 batters in the first three games of this series.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton opens up a seven-game home stand and a series against New Hampshire on Monday at 6:35 PM. LHP Steven Matz goes for Binghamton against a pitcher to be an-nounced for the Fisher Cats.
