
Late Inning Jolt by 'Ducks Gives Fightins Loss

The Fightin Phils (44-61) were defeated by an Akron RubberDucks (59-50) squad that recorded 19 hits as they lost 6-4. Jordan Smith of the RubberDucks hit for the cycle as Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez earned his second loss of the season.
The Fightin Phils loaded the bases off Will Roberts in the bottom of the 1st inning as Carlos Alonso was hit by a pitch, KC Serna hit a single and Kelly Dugan walked. Jake Fox grounded into a double-play to score Alonso and give the Fightins a 1-0 lead. Akron tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the 2nd inning off Chris Bootcheck as Bryson Myles hit a solo home run.
Carlos Alonso hit a RBI single off Roberts in the bottom of the 2nd to score Zach Collier and give the Fightin Phils a 2-1 lead. Kelly Dugan hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to extend Reading's lead to 3-1. The home run for Dugan was his fourth on the season.
Akron tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning with two outs. Erik Gonzalez started the rally with a single followed by Anthony Gallas and Bryan LaHair which scored Gonzalez. Adam Abraham in the next at-bat hit a ground-rule double to score Gallas and tie the game.
Jake Fox gave the Fightins a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning as he hit a RBI single to score Carlos Alonso who was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. Akron tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the 6th inning as Jordan Smith hit a solo home run. The RubberDucks extended their lead to 6-4 off Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez in the top of the 9th inning as Jordan Smith hit a two-run triple to score Ronny Rodriguez and Bryson Myles.
Kyle Simon pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Chris Bootcheck.
The Fightin Phils begin a nine-game road trip in seven days as they head to Portland, Maine to take on the Sea Dogs. First pitch on Monday evening will be at 7:00 pm. Severino Gonzalez (6-11, 5.09 ERA) will be making the start.
