Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Altoona Curve picked up where they left off last night and completed an 8-6 win to start the day and held on for a 10-6 victory in the nightcap at NYSEG Stadium tonight.
In a game that started last night, the B-Mets grabbed an early lead with a four-run first inning against Altoona starter Aaron Thompson. Three straight hits from Brahiam Maldonado, Allan Dykstra, and Eric Campbell got Binghamton off on the right foot.
The B-Mets extended their lead to five on a Raul Reyes solo home run in the fourth, his first round-tripper of the season.
Binghamton starter Jeurys Familia cruised through four frames before hitting a roadblock in the fifth. The Dominican right-hander gave up three straight hits including a two-run triple by Starling Marte. A run-scoring single by Quincy Latimore trimmed the B-Mets lead to two.
Brahiam Maldonado's sacrifice fly in the fifth kicked the margin back up to three, but the advantage would be short-lived. In the sixth, the Curve turned a fielding error, one walk, and two extra base hits into three runs to tie the game.
With two Curve runners aboard in the seventh, Mother Nature stepped in to halt the Altoona rally. Torrential rain rolled through the area and forced the tarp to be pulled on the field. After a delay, the game was declared suspended.
Rhiner Cruz took the ball to kick things off in the restart today and got two quick outs to the end the threat. The Altoona offense returned to form in the eight, though. Shelby Ford's solo home run off Cruz to lead off the eighth broke a 6-6 tie and proved to be the difference.
In the regularly-scheduled contest, Altoona jumped on B-Mets starter Tobi Stoner in the second inning. Back-to-back home runs by Eric Fryer and Miles Durham capped a three-run frame. The Curve extended the lead to six with another trio of scores in the fourth.
Binghamton would not go down without a fight. Jon Malo collected two RBI on a double off the left field wall and Josh Satin followed with a two-run bomb over the left field fence to trim the deficit to two. The blast was Satin's fifth homer of the season.
After trading runs in the bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth, the B-Mets drew back within one on Jordany Valdespin's RBI single to centerfield.
Clinging to the lead, Altoona added a healthy amount of insurance in the top of the ninth as Quincy Latimore sent a three-run home run beyond the left field off B-Mets reliever Erik Turgeon.
In the ninth, Michael Dubee nailed down his third save when he induced Josh Satin to bounce into a game-ending double play.
The B-Mets (14-31) continue their series against the Curve tomorrow with first pitch set for 6:35pm. RHP Brandon Moore (3-3, 4.69) will square off against RHP Jared Hughes (3-1, 3.26). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
