New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

(Manchester, NH)-Joel Carreno, the reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, did not allow a run for the third time in his last four starts, and the Fisher Cats blanked New Britain 4-0 before 5,473 on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Carreno (4-3), who is 4-0 in May, has allowed only one earned run in 26.1 innings in his last four starts. Over that span, he has allowed six hits and has 33 strikeouts. On Saturday, he allowed two hits, walked three and struck out a season-high 11 batters.

New Hampshire (32-16) has won five straight games. The Fisher Cats jumped on Rock Cats starter and loser Steve Hirschfeld (3-2) for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni and Adeiny Hechavarria singled to start the inning. Mike McDade singled home Mastroianni to make it 1-0. Moises Sierra singled to right, scoring Hechavarria. After Travis d'Arnaud walked, Ricardo Nanita hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

The Fisher Cats scored the other run in the bottom of the third. Anthony Gose drilled a 2-0 pitch for his third home run of the season, a solo shot off Hirschfeld.

Hirschfeld worked five innings for New Britain (27-19). He allowed four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six.

Frank Gailey made his Fisher Cats debut working two scoreless innings after relieving Carreno. The 25-year old southpaw had been promoted to Double-A for the first time earlier in the day.

McDade extended his streak to 12 games, the longest of the season by a Fisher Cats player. Travis d'Arnaud saw his hit streak end at eight games after going 0-2 with two walks.

The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats meet again on Sunday at 1:35pm. It will be a CCSNH Reading Challenge Day and Kids Can Run the Bases courtesy of the Buyers Beware Program. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
