Crosby Tosses Gem But 'Wolves Fall to Phils

The SeaWolves came out on the wrong end of a pitching duel on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park, falling to the Reading Phillies 2-1.

The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning against Reading starter J.C. Ramirez. Rawley Bishop led off the inning and smashed his fourth home run of the season. The solo blast over the wall in left gave the SeaWolves a 1-0 advantage.

The ‘Wolves maintained the lead until the top of the eighth. Tuffy Gosewisch led off and singled to right against reliever Zach Simons. With one out Gosewisch stole second. With two outs, Michael Spidale reached on an infield single on a ball that hit the field umpire. Matt Rizzotti followed with a two-run double off of Chance Ruffin giving the Phillies their first lead of the night at 2-1.

The SeaWolves were unable to rebound as Reading reliever Justin De Fratus as he shut down Erie for the final two innings.

Erie starter Casey Crosby was masterful in six shutout innings in a no-decision. He allowed just three hits with two walks and four strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.02. Crosby has allowed just one earned run in his last 18 innings.
