Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Prentice Redman smashed an RBI double that proved to be the game-winner, as the Binghamton Mets defeated the Trenton Thunder 4-2 Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium, picking up their second straight win over the Thunder and their fifth win in their last six games.

Trenton (26-23) got to B-Mets starter Ken Chenard in the first, thanks to a solo shot by Bronson Sardinha, his second homer in as many days. The Thunder made it 2-0 in the fourth when Melky Cabrera drew a leadoff walk off Chenard (4-4), moved to second on a single by Shelly Duncan and scored on an Eric Crozier double.

Binghamton (23-22) sent eight men to the plate in the fifth, scoring three times. Bobby Malek and Joe Hietpas led off with singles against Trenton starter Charlie Isaacson (1-2). The runners then moved to second and third on a Wayne Lydon sacrifice bunt. Aarom Baldiris then followed by beating the first baseman Crozier to the bag on a ground ball to the right side, scoring Malek. Anderson Hernandez followed by tying the game with a drag bunt down the first-base line. Crozier fielded the ball and missed a tag on Hernandez and threw late to home plate, allowing Hietpas to score. Redman then drove a double down the third-base line, scoring Hernandez and giving Binghamton a 3-2 lead.

The B-Mets got an insurance run in the sixth when Jeff Duncan led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second by Malek, stole third and scored on a Lydon single to leftfield.

Tim Hamulack pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings for his sixth save in seven chances. Sunday night, Binghamton plays the third game of its four-game series with Trenton. Orlando Roman (1-1, 3.31) will get the ball for Binghamton against Trenton southpaw Matt Smith (1-3, 4.66). Game time is slated for 7:00 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game show beginning the radio broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
