Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The opening game of the Binghamton Mets 19th consecutive Eastern League season was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning Thursday night due to a torrential downpour. The suspended game is scheduled to be completed Friday evening at 5:05 PM with the regularly scheduled game to be played afterward as a seven-inning contest. Gates open at 4:30 PM.
At the time of the downpour, the B-Mets were trailing Akron 7-2 thanks to a five-run fifth inning output from the Aeros off starter Eric Niesen and reliever Derrick Ellison. Binghamton was in a 2-0 early hole early, but rallied to tie in the fourth on a two-run homer from leftfielder Lucas Duda.
Niesen went four-plus innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He is on the hook for the loss should the score hold up in tomorrow's completion.
All fans with tickets to Thursday's opener may redeem their ticket stub at the B-Mets box office for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any future B-Mets home game, including tomorrow's tilt.
In the second game of the series tomorrow, Binghamton will send RHP Dylan Owen to the mound for his first start of 2010. He is starting in place of RHP Brad Holt, who was placed on the disabled list today with a minor, right wrist injury. Akron will counter with LHP Scott Barnes. The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF will begin at 4:50 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show before the completion of the Thursday's suspended game.
