
Fisher Cats Edge Rock Cats, 5-4, On Opening Night

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT-Kyle Drabek, Luis Perez and Danny Farquhar combined for 14 strikeouts and retired the final 14 batters they faced, and Brad Emaus went 3-for-5 with two RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats edged the New Britain Rock Cats, 5-4, on Opening Night at New Britain Stadium.
New Hampshire (1-0) broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning when Emaus' two-out infield single off losing pitcher Cole DeVries (0-1) scored Calix Crabbe (1-for-4, BB, 2 R, SB) from third.
Drabek (1-0) earned the win in his Fisher Cats' debut, fanning eight over five innings. The right-hander allowed four runs -three earned- on four hits and two walks. Perez recorded five strikeouts over three perfect innings, and Farquhar pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
New Hampshire (1-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni (1-for-4, HR, BB, R) led off the game with a home run, his first, taking an 0- 2 pitch from Carlos Gutierrez over the leftfield wall. Emaus added a run-scoring double, and Brian Jeroloman (2-for-4, 2 RBI) lined a two-run single.
New Britain (0-1) responded in the bottom of the first when Juan Portes (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) belted a two-run homer, his first, off Drabek, cutting the Fisher Cats' lead to 4-2.
The Rock Cats evened the score, 4-4, in the fifth, scoring on a Jeroloman passed ball and a run-scoring ground out by Steve Singleton (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, R).
The Fisher Cats and the Rock Cats play the second game of their four-game series Friday afternoon at 12:05pm with New Hampshire sending veteran right-hander Marty McLeary (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against New Britain righty Mike McCardell (0-0, 0.00) at New Britain Stadium. Radio coverage gets underway at 11:45am with Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
