Azevedo, Campbell Sign With Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, signed center Justin Azevedo to a one-year contract and defenseman Andrew Campbell to an amateur tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. In addition, the Monarchs assigned goaltender Daniel Taylor to the ECHL's Reading Royals.
Azevedo, 20, played the 2007-08 season with the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers and collected career highs in goals (43), assists (81) and points (124) in 67 games. The 5-foot-7, 183-pound native of West Lorne, Ontario, was honored with the Red Tilson Trophy as the most outstanding player in the OHL last season and earned the Ed Chynoweth Trophy as the top scorer in the Memorial Cup. Azevedo recorded 288 points (107-181=288), a plus/minus rating of plus-49 and 230 penalty minutes in 235 career games from 2004-08 with the Rangers. Azevedo was selected by the Kings in the sixth-round (153rd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Campbell, 20, finished second among defensemen on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL with 13 goals, 22 assists and 35 points in 68 games. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound native of Caledonia, Ontario, played in 162 games with the Greyhounds from 2005-08 and recorded 57 points (18-39=57) and 162 penalty minutes. Campbell was selected by the Kings in the third-round (74th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Taylor, 22, made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Dallas Stars on March 29, 2008 where he stopped eight shots in 20 minutes of play and let in two goals in his lone NHL game. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound native of Plymouth, England, collected a record of 13-5-2 with a 2.40 goals-against-average and a .921 save-percentage in 23 games with the Monarchs during the 2007-08 season. Taylor was honored as the co-winner of the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week ending January 27, 2008, when he stopped 67 shots for two shutout wins and was named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Monarchs for January 2008 when he posted a 5-0-0 record, a .87 goals-against-average, a .972 save-percentage and three shutouts during the month. He was selected by the Kings in the seventh-round (221st overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
