
Pirates Announce Official Team Roster

PORTLAND, ME- The Portland Pirates, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, announced today the team's official roster of players that will begin the 2008-09 regular season. The roster features 20 players that include 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 2 goalies.

Pirates head coach Kevin Dineen will be live two local morning radio shows on Thursday morning to talk about the Pirates upcoming season. At 8:10 a.m. fans can tune-in to WBLM 102.9FM and at 8:30 a.m. tune to Q 97.9FM.

The American Hockey League begins its 73rd season tonight as 29 teams start down the road to the 2009 Calder Cup championship. The 2008-09 campaign gets underway with a pair of games, as the Providence Bruins play host to the Lowell Devils and the defending Eastern Conference champion Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins entertain the Hershey Bears.
The Pirates open their 16th American Hockey League season on Saturday, October 11th against the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings) at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. Fans will receive magnetic schedules, plus USA Olympians and Maine natives, Kevin Eastler and Adam Craig will be at the game as part of the Opening Night festivities.
