Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers (16-29) lost to the Las Vegas Aviators (24-21) by a 5-2 final score on Thursday night, falling behind in the weeklong home series, two games to one.
The Rainiers scored early, jumping on Las Vegas starter Adam Oller in the first inning. Zach Green drove in his club-leading 31st run with a single scoring Jarred Kelenic (fielder's choice, SB), putting Tacoma in front 1-0.
After retiring the first six batters in a row, Rainiers RHP Konner Wade surrendered three consecutive hits, two singles and a three-run homer by Dalton Kelly (4) in the top of the third. The next three Aviator hitters were retired in order, with Las Vegas leading 3-1.
Tacoma bounced right back in the bottom of the third, getting the first three batters on base without recording an out. Brian O'Keefe grounded into a double play, but Erick Mejia was able to score on the ball in play, cutting the Aviators lead to one.
Las Vegas scored the last runs of the ballgame in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk issued to Matt Davidson led to Jonah Bride driving the ball over the left field wall for the second Aviators home run of the game, extending their lead to 5-2. It was Bride's first Triple-A homer, in his second career game at the level.
A team of four Rainiers relievers kept the Vegas bats quiet for the remainder of the evening: Lefties Kyle Bird (1.0 IP, 1 H 1 K), Austin Warner (1.0 IP, 0 H) and Danny Young, (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K), and right-hander Matt Koch (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 K) each worked a scoreless inning.
Game four of this series is scheduled for Friday evening, a 7:05 PT first pitch at Cheney Stadium. Tacoma LHP Justus Sheffield will take on Las Vegas starter Adrian Martinez.
