Sacramento River Cats News Release
Summerlin, Nev. - Though the Sacramento River Cats (4-2) were able to plate the first run in the new stadium's history, the Las Vegas Aviators (5-1) would brave the wind for a 10-2 victory at Las Vegas Ballpark's grand opening.
Sacramento loaded the bases in the first inning and scored first thanks to outfielder Michael Reed's walk, but Aviators right-handers Chris Bassitt and Daniel Mengden would limit the River Cats to just two hits the rest of the game. Mengden, in particular, was dominant with six one-hit innings and nine strikeouts.
River Cats right-hander Tyler Beede (0-0, 0.00) will be back on the mound looking to build off his impressive start last Friday night when he struck out eight in four scoreless innings. The Aviators are scheduled to send righty Jake Buchanan to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.5 FM.
Additional Notes
- Lefty Andrew Suarez was tagged for six runs, four earned in his three innings of work -- the shortest start Suarez has made in Triple-A in 18 starts since being called up to Sacramento on June 13, 2017.
- Right-hander DJ Myers, who was transferred from Advanced-A San Jose prior to Tuesday night's game, pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out four. Only one batter reached base during his time on the mound, and it came by way of an error.
- After averaging 11.4 hits in the first five games of the new year, the River Cats were held to just four base knocks in the series opener.
