Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, TX December 10, 2010 - The Austin Toros are spreading holiday cheer in conjunction with the NBA Development League's Season of Giving initiative to give back to those less fortunate during the holiday season. The Toros are working with community partners to present these events during home games on December 15 and 19.
"The Toros are privileged to be owned by a company in Spurs Sports & Entertainment whose belief it is that giving back to the community is its core mission," Peter Lubell, Toros Chief Operating Officer. "As a professional sports team, we have a responsibility to act as mentors to Central Texas youth and lend a helping hand to those in need."
The Toros and the Bakersfield Jam meet for the first time this season on December 15 at 7:30p.m. at Cedar Park Center. Wednesday's game is "Gaudy Holiday Wear Day" and fans that come to the game with an unusual holiday sweater or a unique Christmas hat will receive free admission to the game. The Toros have adopted a family and provided them with free tickets to the game. As a surprise, children of the adopted family will have 45 seconds to gather as many toys as possible in a halftime toy scramble.
The December 19 game against the Reno Bighorns will be presented by Texas Orthopedics, and features free tickets for military families (with identification) and a visit from Santa Claus. The Toros are partnering with the Blood Center of Central Texas to sponsor a blood drive before the game starting at 3p.m. Donors will be granted free admission to the game. Fans can also receive a free ticket to the game by visiting any of the four North Austin center locations from December 13 to 17. Prior to the 5:00pm tip-off, the Toros are partnering with Toys for Tots to host a toy drive. Fans that donate a toy will receive a free ticket to the game in exchange for a new, unwrapped toy.
Fans are encouraged to take part in one of the local donation drives and support these community building initiatives. Tickets are still available for the holiday home games. For more information please call (512) 236-8333, visit austintoros.com or ticketmaster.com.
