
Austin FC Falls to Sporting KC

Kansas City, KANSAS - Austin FC fell 4-1 to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night at Children's Mercy Park.
Sporting KC found the net first in the 19th minute with a goal from Alan Pulido. Tim Leibold sent a cross in that was nodded back to Pulido in the box, whose finish put the hosts up 1-0. In the 27th minute, Austin nearly found an equalizer from Jon Gallagher, but his shot took a deflection that pushed it over the crossbar.
Early in the second half, Erik Thommy sent a free kick into the box, which Pulido managed to touch on to Robert Castellanos by the far post. Castellanos tapped it in for the hosts' second goal of the match. 10 minutes later, Pulido scored his second goal of the night, stretching to finish off a long cross from Leibold. The Verde & Black found a goal of their own in the 68th minute as Sebastián Driussi scored for the second time in three matches since returning from injury. Julio Cascante was able to nod down a cross that the SKC goalkeeper parried, but Gyasi Zardes collected the ball and fed Druissi. The Argentine tucked a shot away from close range for his fourth goal of the season.
Despite Austin creating a few more chances, Sporting KC's Khiry Shelton scored the hosts' fourth goal in the 89th minute to seal the result.
