Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC fell in a 2-1 defeat against Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium.
Both teams had a handful of chances in the opening 45 minutes. Austin's best opportunity came through a double chance, as Memo Rodriguez's curling shot from distance and Emiliano Rigoni's rebound attempt were both saved by Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Brad Stuver then made a strong stop of his own against Sounders forward Jordan Morris.
Morris eventually opened the scoring to start the second half though, flicking in a free kick from Nico Lodeiro at the near post. Austin were then denied the equalizing goal as the referee ruled that Rigoni's header was inches short of crossing the goalline.
The Verde & Black continued to apply pressure and found the net via Sebastián Driussi's team-leading eighth goal of 2023, assisted by Gyasi Zardes and Rodriguez. But the Sounders regained the lead in the closing minutes of the game, as Albert Rusnak scored to win the match for the visitors.
Goal-Scoring Summary
SEA (0-1) - Jordan Morris (assisted by Nico Lodeiro) 48'
ATX (1-1) - Sebastián Driussi (assisted by Gyasi Zardes, Memo Rodriguez) 72'
SEA (1-2) - Albert Rusnak (unassisted) 90'
