Austin FC News Release
Austin, Texas - Austin FC today announced a multi-platform partnership with Univision Austin, part of Univision Communications Inc., the leading Spanish-language content and media company in the U.S, naming Univision its official Spanish-language broadcast and radio partner. As part of the deal, Univision's local stations - Univision 62 (KAKW) and UniMás Austin (KTFO) - will team to broadcast every regionally televised match from the inaugural season. TUDN Radio Austin (104.3-HD2, KLQB) will be Austin FC's flagship Spanish language radio station, carrying commentary from every Austin FC regular season MLS match in 2021 from April 24 vs. the Colorado Rapids. All Austin FC regionally televised matches will also be available to stream on the Univision 62 Austin mobile app and website, UnivisionAustin.com. Former Liga MX and USL star midfielder Sonny Guadarrama will serve as analyst and Roger Valdivieso as play-by-play announcer for the broadcasts.
"Austin FC's multiplatform partnership with Univision is a collaborative commitment to innovation and audience accessibility" commented Andy Loughnane, Austin FC President. "Roger and Sonny are outstanding additions to our broadcast booth and Austin FC and Univision are extremely honored to have their voices call Austin FC's inaugural season."
"We are proud to team with Austin FC to serve as the club's official Spanish-language broadcast partner," said Christine Escobar, President & General Manager, Univision Austin. "With our audience's passion for soccer, we are excited to bring futbol fanáticos in the Austin area the team's inaugural season and help build the next generation of die-hard MLS fans."
Texas native Roger Valdivieso will pair with Austin native Sonny Guadarrama to call the action for all regular season matches broadcast on video and/or radio. Valdivieso's extensive experience with Spanish-language soccer coverage, alongside Guadarrama's professional playing experience, will support both a locally-driven and knowledgeable Spanish-language broadcast for Austin FC matches.
Valdivieso brings over 25 years of broadcast experience at the highest level, both domestically and internationally, with tenures at ESPN, Fox Sports, and Fox Deportes as the lead Spanish language play-by-play announcer covering a wide range of professional soccer. His soccer coverage experience extends across UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Serie A, Bundesliga and Major League Soccer.
Guadarrama began his professional soccer career in 2006 with six-time La Liga MX Champions Santos Laguna, where he played as a midfielder. Guadarrama then went on to a 10-year career playing with both CF Atlante and Club Necaxa. Guadarrama also played for USL Championship teams San Antonio FC (2018) and Austin Bold FC (2019-20).
I am honored to be the Spanish-language voice of Austin FC," commented Roger Valdivieso. "I am especially proud to be able to join the organization during its maiden MLS season. During our broadcasts, I hope to match the passion our Spanish-speaking audience has for its Club and help grow the legend."
"It's an honor to be part of the Austin FC organization, where I can share my love for the game to all our Spanish-speaking viewers who will follow the Club's action this season" said Sonny Guadarrama.
