Seattle Sounders FC News Release

Sounders FC (1-0-0, 3 points) hits the road for the first time in 2021 this Saturday to face Western Conference rival Los Angeles FC (1-0-0, 3 points) at Banc of California Stadium (3:00 p.m. PT / ESPN, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Seattle opened the season last Friday with a 4-0 win over Minnesota United thanks to a brace from Raúl Ruidíaz and additional tallies from João Paulo and Fredy Montero. Ruidíaz earned MLSsoccer.com Player of the Week honors, while João Paulo's side-winding volley is nominated for MLS Goal of the Week. With a limited capacity crowd of 7,042 on-hand due to health and safety limitations, Sounders FC heard the support of its home fans for the first time since March 7, 2020 when the pandemic began.

LAFC opened its 2021 season with a 2-0 win over expansion side Austin FC courtesy of goals from Corey Baird and José Cifuentes. The Black & Gold lead the regular season series 4-2-1 over Seattle, while the Rave Green have knocked LAFC out of each of the last two postseasons, a home win in the First Round last season and a road victory in the 2019 Western Conference Final.
