
Austin Falls Short to Stockton

AUSTIN - In the first game of the new year, the Austin Spurs (1-1) fell short to the Stockton Kings (3-0), 94-108 at the HEB Center at Cedar Park on Sunday afternoon.
Alize Johnson recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Charles Bassey recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds while Blake Wesley added 14 points for the Spurs.
The Spurs recorded a 14-4 run that gave them their first lead of the game. Johnson led the way with eight points and five rebounds that helped Austin outscore Stockton in the first quarter, 29-24.
Both teams traded baskets in the second quarter with six lead changes. The Kings came back and outscored the Spurs 27-21, as Wes Iwundu led Stockton with 14 points that pushed the Kings ahead by one point at the half, 51-50.
In the third, the Kings went on a 10-2 run, as they outscored the Spurs 33-18. Iwundu went 6-8 in the field and 2-2 at the three for Stockton. Bassey led the Spurs in the third with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
In the last frame, the Spurs shot 52.6% from the field, but it wasn't enough to edge over the Kings that shot 54.4% from the field and 48% from the three in the fourth quarter.
Guard Jordan Ford led Stockton with 19 points and 5 assists while Iwundu and guard Keon Ellis both chipped in 16 points for the Kings win.

The Spurs hit the road to Washington DC to face the Capital City Go-Go for a two-game series that starts on Jan. 4. Tipoff is set for 6 P.M.
