Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (45-43) vs. FRONTIER GREYS (39-49)

Saturday, August 29, 2015 - 6:05 p.m. ET

UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY

Game #89 - Home Game #47 (45-43), (22-24)

LHP #30 Zach Wendorf (2-1, 2.12 ERA) vs. RHP #13 Justin D'Alessandro (5-7, 3.90 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom shutout the Greys by a score of 6-0 Friday night. Jeremy Gooding tossed the first nine-inning complete game this year by any Freedom pitcher. He scattered six hits, did not walk anyone and struck out eight along the way. The Freedom drew seven walks in the game and made the most of them. Zac Mitchell and Austin Newell drew back-to-back walks against Greys starter Bobby Shore (5-8) in the first inning. Sam Eberle followed with a two-RBI double to put Florence up 2-0. Andrew Godbold crushed a solo home run in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0. It was Godbold's fourth homer of the year but his first at UC Health Stadium. Steve Carrillo, who had a brilliant game defensively, also came up big on offense for Florence. He smacked a RBI single in the seventh and a two-RBI double in the eighth to make it 6-0 in favor of the Freedom. That's all Gooding needed as he pitched the Freedom into playoff positioning.

For Starters...

Zach Wendorf makes his 9th overall appearance and his fourth start for the Freedom tonight. He is coming off a win over his former team, the Schaumburg Boomers, on August 21 as he went five and two thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits in a 7-3 win for Florence. When Wendorf was with Schaumburg he faced the Greys twice out of the bullpen, tossing three combined innings of shutout ball. Wendorf was signed by the Boomers out of the California Winter League in January of 2015. The 6'5" lefty from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point finished his senior season with a 2-1 record and 4.98 ERA in 10 appearances out of the bullpen. The 23-year-old from Pine River, Wisconsin, struck out 27 in 34 innings for the Pointers in 2014, adding one save. The Freedom signed Wendorf on July 10, 2015.

The playoff chase...

The Freedom are currently tied with the Rockford Aviators for the final spot in the Frontier League playoffs. Florence holds the tiebreaker so if the season ended today the Freedom would be in the post-season.

Going for the series win...

With a win tonight Florence would win their 5th consecutive series and their third straight at home.

Five or more...

Florence is 33-4 when scoring five or more runs in a game this season.
