Florence Y'alls News Release
(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom (45-44), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, couldn't hold on to three separate leads in a 6-3 loss to the Frontier Greys (40-49) Saturday night.
With the Rockford Aviators losing to the Normal CornBelters, the Freedom remain tied for the final spot in the Frontier League playoffs with Rockford. Florence holds the tiebreaker thanks to their season-series win. Seven games remain in the regular season.
Florence grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first as Zac Mitchell doubled and moved to third on an error by left fielder Shane Brown. Austin Newell drove home Mitchell with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when Scott Carcaise hit a solo home run off Freedom starter Zach Wendorf.
Isaac Wenrich gave the Freedom their second lead of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, his third home run of the season since joining the Freedom.
But the Greys rallied to tie the game in the top of the fifth on a Julio Rodriguez sacrifice fly.
Florence took their third lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Josh Henderson got things started with a double. One out later Steve Carrillo drew a walk and Daniel Fraga singled home Henderson to put Florence up 3-2. The Freedom had a chance to add to the lead as they loaded the bases with two outs but reliever Chris Rice (4-2) struck out Sam Eberle to end the inning.
Seth Harvey (3-4) replaced Wendorf in the sixth and allowed three runs to take the loss. With one out Michael Antonio double. Harvey proceeded to walk back-to-back hitters to load the bases. Zach Tanner delivered a two-RBI single to put the Greys up 4-3. They added another run on a Rodriguez RBI single to make it 5-3.
A Brandon Tierney solo shot in the seventh off Austin Delmotte provided the final run of the game, making it 6-3 in favor of the Greys.
