Last time out...

Florence fell to Normal 3-2 in 11 innings on Thursday. Normal started the 11th inning with a runner on a second base thanks to the International Rule. The CornBelters loaded the bases with only one out and Jason Merjano drove in Pat McKenna on fielder's choice for the game-winning run. Patrick McGrath tossed six innings allowing two runs on five hits. He fanned four and picked up the no decision. Florence got on the board in the top half of the second. Frazier Hall walked, and moved to third on a Collins Cuthrell double. Andrew Godbold drove in Hall with an RBI ground-out. Florence held a 1-0 lead after one and a half innings of play. The CornBelters scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the lead. Florence tied the game in the ninth. Austin Newell singled to lead off the frame. Hall singled to right field and Cuthrell plated Newell on a RBI single to tie the game at two heading to the bottom half of the ninth. Tony Vocca took the loss.

For Starters...

Zack Wendorf makes his second pro start tonight and is coming off a great outing against the Joliet Slammers on August 8 as he went five innings, allowing only a unearned run on one hit. Wendorf walked two and struck out five in a no-decision as the Freedom eventually won 4-2. Over his last 9.2 innings pitched, Wendorf has allowed only one earned run. Wendorf was signed by the Schaumburg Boomers out of the California Winter League in January of 2015. The 6'5" lefty from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point finished his senior season with a 2-1 record and 4.98 ERA in 10 appearances out of the bullpen. The 23-year-old from Pine River, Wisconsin, struck out 27 in 34 innings for the Pointers in 2014, adding one save.

Against the Grizzlies...

The Freedom are 1-2 against Gateway so far in 2015. They dropped two of three in Sauget from May 26-28, losing the opener 12-4, bouncing back to win game two 7-5 and dropping the rubber match 10-4.
