Washington Wild Things News Release

NORMAL, IL-The Washington bats were able to compile nine hits on the evening, but a high-potent Normal offense proved to be too much as the Wild Things were dealt a 13-2 loss in the road series opener on Friday, August 14. Kevin Johnson earned the win for the CornBelters while Jeremy Holcombe suffered the loss.

The CornBelters took an early lead in the first when Aaron Dudley plated center fielder Mark Micowski, who reached on a Washington error. An RBI single from Cameron Monger gave Normal a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Washington was able to cut the deficit in half on the first pitch of the second inning when right fielder Scott Kalamar launched his fifth home run of the season. In the bottom half of the inning, however, the CornBelters regained their two-run lead and then some, scoring four runs on six hits. RBI's were credited to Micowski, Dudley, Pat McKenna and Sam Judah.

Kalamar added another Wild Things run in the top of the third when he knocked a single to score Andrew Heck, but the CornBelters refused to give up their lead. Normal added two runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth for a 13-2 score. Washington was unable to make up the ground, giving the Belters the game one victory.
