
Slammers Lose on the Road to Traverse City 6-2

Joliet Slammers News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Joliet Slammers (31-45) fell behind early to Traverse City (44-29) and lost to the Beach Bums 6-2 on Friday night.
An RBI single from Jose Vargas and a Brandon Jacobs run-scoring double in the bottom of the 1st off of Joliet starter Andrew Strenge put the Beach Bums out in front 2-0. Joliet answered back with a run in the 3rd as Carlos Lopez scored on a Phil Bates groundout. Bates finished 0-4 and saw his hitting streak end at 11-straight. The Bums scored twice more in the 5th inning to make it 4-1. Jeff DeBlieux came through with an RBI double and another run scored on an sacrifice fly from Alex Tomasovich. A 2-run homer from Jacobs in the 6th finished the scoring for Traverse City, as Strenge (6-6) gave up all 6 runs on 9 hits over six innings to suffer the loss. Joliet's final run came in the 9th on a Jack Cleary RBI ground out. Alfredo Rodriguez was on base three times for Joliet with 2 hits and a walk. Ian MacDougall (9-4) went the first 8 innings for the victory and lowered his ERA to 2.20. He allowed one run on 5 hits while striking out five and walking no one. The game lasted just hours and 19 minutes in front of almost 4100 fans on a very warm night (87 degrees) in northern Michigan. Joliet returns home for a 2-Dollar Tuesday on August 18th at 7:05pm, to open a three-game series against the Florence Freedom. Wednesday the 19th features an appearance by the all-time hit king Pete Rose. He will put on a Slammers uniform to coach the bases for two innings and also sign autographs.
