Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack are excited to announce that they have partnered with Russell Fencing to make improvements to areas in and around the arena bowl in J.D. McArthur Arena at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre over the next three off-seasons. The four year project is estimated to cost between $40,000 and $50,000 when it is all completed.
Russell Fencing and the Attack have been partners for a couple of years now working on projects primarily focusing on helping create, improve and secure storage spaces in the dressing room area's. This multi-year project will involve targets area's in and around the arena bowl that have seating area's that are partially obstructed for some fans depending on their size. The plan is to target areas primarily around tunnel ways that lead to the dressing room areas and lobby in sections D, H/J, M, Q, R, and Z, as well as the accessible seating area's at the top of sections S and Y. Russell Fencing will take down the current steel tubing that currently protects fans from falling from above the tunnel ways or down into the arena bowl from the concourse level above and replace it with glass.
With the current arena boards, glass and floor replacement project going on at the Bayshore, this project focus on improving the accessible seating area's prior to the start of the 2025-26 season, then move into the arena bowl over the next two off-seasons.
"Improving these area's has always been on our radar, but it wasn't until just before the beginning of the 2024-25 season that we had a real solution" said Attack Manager of Marketing and Communications, Greg Hoddinott. "Derek and I were working on the renewal of his sponsorship and we actually shared with each other our experiences of sitting in one of these area's and when he suggested he could take this on, we jumped at the opportunity to make the improvements."
The ground has been laid throughout the season and early in this off-season with Russell Fencing and the Attack working with the City of Owen Sound building department to ensure we are meeting all building code requirements. Work on the accessible seating area's is scheduled to be complete prior to the Attack home opener on Saturday, September 27 against the Kitchener Rangers.
"We are excited to work with Derek and his team on this project and would like to thank them for helping us find a solution to this problem" added Hoddinott.
