Attack at the Draft - OHL Priority Selection Day 1
Published on June 4, 2021 under Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack made three selections on day 1 of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore. The Attack used their three picks to select two forwards and a defenceman.
Round 1 (8th Overall): Colby Barlow
Colby Barlow is a 6-foot-one inch, 190-pound centre from the Toronto Marlboros program. The native of Orillia, Ontario is a pro-typical power forward who plays a hard and heavy style of game. "Colby is a pure goal scorer" said Attack Head Scout/Director of Player Develoopment Sean Lafortune. "He projects as a front line forward in the league." Round 3 (42nd Overall): Cal Uens
Cal Uens is a five-foot-eight and half inch, 155-pound defenceman from the Quinte Devils program. The native of Napanee, Ontario, made the switch from forward to defence at the midway point of the 2019-20 season. Making the switch was a natural move for Cal, who has quickly turned into a dynamic defenceman in a short period of time. "Cal should be impactful right away" said Lafortune. "He plays with high end pace that projects to be a powerplay quarter back in his time with the team." Round 3 (47th Overall): Thomas Chafe
Thomas Chafe is a five-foot-seven-inch, 150-pound right winger from the Notre Dame Hounds program. The native of Ottawa, Ontario plays the game with never quit work ethic and is strategic and skilled in puck possession. "Thomas is a high-end worker who uses his strong hockey sense and skill to make smart decisions on the puck" said Lafortune. In a draft that was surrounded by uncertainty surrounding players, the Attack had a successful first day getting players they had targeted with all three picks. "It was a fantastic first day for us" said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "We got three players that we highly regarded and were high up on our list. To be honest we were quite shocked that each of them were there." The OHL Priority Selection will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning with Sudbury Wolves make the first pick in round four. The Attack will make their first picks of day 2 in the fifth round at 84th and 87th overall. Stay tuned to your Attack at the Draft coverage presented by Bumstead Insurance & Financial.
