Firebirds Welcome Tristan Bertucci to Flint with Their 7th Overall Pick

June 4, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Flint Firebirds News Release

Flint, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds announced today that the club has selected defenseman Tristan Bertucci as the 7th-overall pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore.

"We are really excited to draft Tristan with our first pick," President of Hockey Operations Terry Christensen said. "Not only is he a great player, but he also's a leader for his hockey club, has great character and we can't wait to get him in our locker room."

Bertucci, a native of Vaughan, Ontario, played with the Toronto Marlboros U15 in the GTHL during the 2019-20 season. The 6-foot-2, 180-point defenseman is known for his great skating abilities and ability in the offensive zone.

The 2021 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection, presented by Real Canadian Superstore, will take place on two separate days this year. Friday, June 4 will see Rounds 1-3 take place starting at 7 PM. Rounds 4-15 will conclude the draft Saturday, June 5 starting at 9 AM. Both days will be streamed live on Youtube.

OHL Prospects Report: Bertucci is a smooth-skating defender with excellent hands and great vision. His four-way mobility stands out on the ice, with the ability to dance along the blue line as he creates space for himself. He already has a knack for carrying the puck into the house for a high-danger chance, versus a low-percentage shot from the point. Already six-foot-one, the defender has a good posture with a long reach and while there are some improvements to make on the defensive side of the puck, his offensive game should excel at the next level.
