Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League is please to announce that with their 1st round selection (3rd overall) in the 2008 OHL Priority Draft, they have selected forward Steven Shipley of the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs.

During the 2007/2008 season, the 6'1 ½ 192lb Ilderton, ON. native recorded 53 goals and 51 assists for 104 points in 65 games played. Shipley continued his strong play into the OHL cup, leading his team in points tallying 6 goals and 6 assists in 6 games played.

Attack Head Coach Mark Reeds describes Shipley as a "sizeable forward with an excellent skill set." Reeds went on to say that "he pays attention to detail in the offensive zone and knows his responsibilities and applies himself in the defensive end of the ice."

Aside from Shipley's skill set, what drew Attack General Manager Dale DeGray's eye to Shipley was the character that he displayed off the ice. "This is a great kid from a great family. They are a close knit, small town family with a real passion for the game of hockey. They are community type people and I cannot stress how important that is to the organization." Said DeGray.

Steven Shipley, along with his Father Jeff, Mother Nancy and brother Ryan and were in Owen Sound this morning for a 9:30a.m. press conference to discuss their excitement about Steven being a 3rd overall pick to the Owen Sound Attack.

"I am honored to be selected by the Owen Sound Attack. I'm very excited about the opportunity to come to Owen Sound and be able to step into the lineup. It's a young rebuilding team and I hope to contribute to the future success of this franchise." stated Steven following a press conference at 9:30a.m. this morning.
