Otters Select McKegg Second Overall
May 3, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League used the second overall pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection to choose forward Greg McKegg from the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound 15 year-old registered 73 goals and 53 assists for 126 points in 64 games last season in leading the Chiefs to the 2007-08 minor midget Alliance Championship.
"It's an honor to be picked second overall and I'm very excited to be coming to Erie," McKegg said. "Mr. Bassin spent a lot of time with my family and me and from what I have heard and experienced so far it's a great organization and the community has been very supportive. I can't wait to play my first game."
The Otters will introduce McKegg during the Priority Selection Party being held tonight (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. at East Erie Turners.
"We expect this young man to step into our line-up and be an integral part of our building process," Otters General Manager and Managing Partner Sherwood Bassin said. "He's an extremely talented player that can add some offensive punch to our team. With his ability and personality there's no doubt in my mind that he will mesh with the other players on our team and be an outstanding contributor."
The Otters own 14 other selections, including five more picks in the first 97, in the 15-round Selection.
The Sudbury Wolves made it official this morning when they announced John McFarland as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. The 16 year-old forward had 165 points in 76 games with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in 2007-08.
