
Atlanta United Waives Luiz Fernando

ATLANTA - Atlanta United announced today it has waived midfielder Luiz Fernando, clearing an international roster spot.
The 23-year-old signed an MLS contract on Aug. 21, 2019, joining from the club's USL Championship team, Atlanta United 2. Fernando made one First Team appearance as a substitute against FC Motagua in the second leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 on Feb. 25, 2020.
"We wish Luiz nothing but the best of luck in his future and are grateful for his service to the club over the last two years," Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said.
Fernando, a native of São Paulo, Brazil, was signed by ATL UTD 2 Nov. 19, 2018. He appeared in 32 matches, including 27 starts, in his first season with ATL UTD 2 and recorded two goals and a team-high four assists.
Prior to joining Atlanta, Fernando spent three seasons with the Richmond Kickers where he made 78 appearances, scored six goals and recorded six assists. He began his career in Corinthians' youth academy in São Paulo before signing with Richmond.
