Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United announced today it has signed free agent midfielder Jürgen Damm. In a preceding move, Atlanta acquired Damm's Discovery Rights from Houston Dynamo in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money. Damm, who most recently played in Liga MX for Tigres UANL, will join Atlanta United and occupy an international roster spot pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa. He will join the team in August after it returns from MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando.
"It's exciting to add a player with Jürgen's pedigree and winning mentality and we're looking forward to welcoming him to the club," Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "He's excelled in Liga MX, as well on the international level with the Mexican National Team and we believe he can make an immediate impact in MLS. Jürgen is versatile to play on either wing, and with his pace and ability to beat defenders 1v1 to deliver a cross, he gives us another valuable weapon in our attack."
Damm, a 27-year old midfielder who has thrived in Liga MX, began his playing career in Mexico with Estudiantes Tecos. He made his debut in Liga MX for the club in 2012 and made 20 appearances before being transferred to Pachuca in the summer of 2013, where he became a regular starter. He scored three goals and added three assists combined across 33 league matches in the 2013-14 Apertura and Clausura. After two seasons, Damm transferred to Tigres UANL.
At Tigres, Damm was a part of four Mexican championship teams winning the Liga MX Apertura in consecutive years from 2015 to 2017, while adding the Liga MX Clausura title in 2019. The midfielder was a mainstay for Tigres totaling 172 appearances in all competitions. He completed his Tigres career with 13 goals and 23 assists. Damm has played in 22 Concacaf Champions League matches and made four appearances in the Copa Libertadores when Tigres was invited to the competition in 2015. Damm's contract with Tigres expired at the end of the 2019-20 season, leaving him as a free agent.
Damm was called into the Mexican National Team in 2015 and made his debut on March 28, 2015 in a friendly against Ecuador. He has made 12 total appearances for Mexico, scoring one goal for his country in a World Cup Qualifying match against Honduras in November 2015.
