
Earthquakes Defender Marcos Lopez Undergoes Appendectomy

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday afternoon to treat acute appendicitis. The surgery was performed at the Orlando Health Doctor P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando, Fla. and recovery is expected to last between two and four weeks.
Lopez, 20, made 15 starts and 18 total appearances during his debut season with the Quakes in 2019, tallying one assist.
The Earthquakes play their first of three group-stage matches in the MLS is Back Tournament on Friday, July 10 vs. Seattle Sounders FC, presented by Intermedia.
