Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United today announced it has received up to $600,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from LAFC in exchange for defender Franco Escobar. Atlanta will receive $250,000 GAM in 2022, up to $350,000 GAM in future incentives and a share of a future transfer should LAFC move Escobar outside of MLS.
"Franco was a true competitor during his time here and we'd like to thank him for his contributions to the club," Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "We wish him well at LAFC and in his future."
Escobar joined Atlanta United in 2018 from Newell's Old Boys and quickly made an impact with 22 matches played, including 20 starts. The versatile defender broke through during Atlanta's 2018 MLS Cup run where he scored twice, including scoring in the MLS Cup Final against Portland. In three seasons with the club, Escobar made 81 appearances across all competitions, including 71 in MLS. He spent 2021 on loan with Newell's Old Boys and made six total appearances after suffering a fractured foot in February.
