Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF announced today that it has acquired $1,200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for winger Lewis Morgan. Inter Miami will receive $700,000 in GAM for 2022 and $500,000 in GAM for 2023, and will retain a percentage of a future transfer.
"We'd like to thank Lewis for his tireless efforts since joining the Club in 2020. He has been an exemplary player for us on and off the field, and we wish him well in the future. This trade will help give us the flexibility needed to shape our roster ahead of the 2022 MLS season," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
"Thanks to all the fans for everything and the great support they have given me over the last two years. I've loved my time with Inter Miami. I feel a great connection with the Club and I hope we can maintain that in the future. Hopefully, I'll receive a nice reception when I come back to see everyone. It's sad that I can't be part of the journey going forward but it's for the good of the Club. It was important that someone had to go, and if it benefits the Club and benefits myself as I start a new chapter in New York, then everyone wins. I've enjoyed my time here, I'm grateful for the support from everyone and I'll forever be a fan of this Club. Now, I'm looking forward to a new journey," said Morgan.
Morgan signed for Inter Miami from Scottish Premier League side Celtic FC in January 2020, becoming one of the Club's key additions ahead of its inaugural season.
The winger proceeded to appear, and start, in every Inter Miami match through the team's first two seasons, totaling 57 starts and 4,780 minutes played in the regular season, along with a start and 90 minutes played in the Club's lone playoff match. In that time, he tallied seven goals and 12 assists.
Morgan was an integral part of the team's efforts in 2020, earning him the honor of being named Inter Miami's inaugural season MVP following a campaign in which he led the team in both goals and assists. He also featured across many milestone moments for the team, including assisting its first-ever goal, leading the team to the playoffs for the first time in its inaugural season, being named the team's first MVP and being the first player to reach 50 appearances for Inter Miami.
Inter Miami would CF like to sincerely thank Morgan for all he has accomplished with the Club and his work both on and off the field, and wishes him well in the future.
