Arkansas Travelers News Release
Ray Winder Field, Little Rock, AR - - Even though Jason Aspito had a four-hit night including two home runs (9), the Frisco RoughRiders (27-25) pounded three home runs and 17 hits en route to an 11-6 victory over the Arkansas Travelers (17-35). Frisco RF Anthony Webster's two-run homer (4) in the fifth inning broke a 5-5 tie and the Riders added four runs in the eighth inning with Travis Metcalf blasting a two-run bomb to put the game away. Webster, on an 11-game hitting streak, was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Arkansas losing pitcher RHP Rafael Rodriguez (1-4) allowed two home runs plus 11 hits and seven runs in seven innings for the loss. Frisco RHP Danny Touchet (2-1) pitched 2.2 relief innings allowing one of Aspito's homers for the win. The Travs are 0-6 against Frisco and have lost five in a row. Taking it further, the Travs have dropped 19 of their last 23 games including 11 losses in their last 12 home games.
Frisco came out swinging in the first inning with Kevin Mahar lining the first pitch to center. Enrique Cruz followed with a first-pitch double to left field moving Mahar to third base. Adam Morrissey plated Mahar with a single to right field giving Frisco a run on just four pitches. Jim Fasano then reached first base on a fielder's choice scoring Cruz from third base. Nate Gold moved Fasano to second base with a single to left field and Webster capped the three-run rally with an RBI double to right.
Frisco starter RHP Andy Walker retired the first two batters of the first inning, but Brandon Wood hit a slow roller along the third-base line for an infield single. Matt Brown then smacked a curve ball over the left field fence for a two-run homer (7).
After Rodriguez pitched a 1-2-3 second inning, Aspito led off the bottom half with a double inside first base. When Matt Pali's hard grounder was smothered at second base by Morrissey, Pali beat the throw for a single moving Aspito to third base. Walker uncorked a wild pitch scoring Aspito with the tying run while Pali advanced to second and moved to third base on a groundout by Greg Porter. Dwaine Bacon put the Travs in front 4-3 with a sacrifice fly to center.
Metcalf began the top of the fourth with a single to left field and Richardson powered his third homer in three games, a two-run shot (5) to center for a 5-4 Frisco lead.
Walker allowed Aspito's first home run, a one-out solo shot to right field in the fourth inning to tie the game.
Touchet came on for the fifth inning and stranded Aaron Peel at third base by catching Wood and Brown looking for strikeouts.
Rodriguez issued the only walk of the game in the fifth inning with one out to Fasano. Webster put the Riders in front for good with a two-run home run to the right-field corner for a 7-5 lead.
Aspito took Walker deep to center field in the sixth inning bringing the Travs within 7-6, but Arkansas left another runner at third base in the seventh.
Rodriguez kept Frisco from scoring in the sixth and seventh, but RHP Bill Edwards came on for the eighth inning. Webster smacked a leadoff single and Metcalf ran a full count before smashing a two-run homer to dead center for a 9-5 Frisco lead. The Riders would tack on two more runs to cap the scoring.
Time of game was 2:42 and the paid attendance was 3,248.
