Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - The Houston Astros have announced that ten time All-Star Roger Clemens will pitch for the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday, June 11 at Whataburger Field. The Hooks will take on the San Antonio Missions, Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Game time is scheduled for 6:05pm and gates will open at 4:00 pm.

Wednesday morning Clemens, along with Houston Astros Owner Drayton McLane, General Manager Tim Purpura, and Clemens' agent Randy Hendricks made the announcement that he would be returning to the Astros rotation. With the announcement came news that Clemens would be making three starts with Astros minor league affiliates prior to his first start with the Astros.

In addition to his Corpus Christi appearance, Clemens will also make a June 6th start for the Single-A Lexington Legends and will head to Round Rock (Triple-A) for a June 16th start with the Express.

"With all due respect to Jeff Bagwell and his appearances at Whataburger Field last year, to our Inaugural Opening Day last year, to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beating the University of Texas in baseball and Calallen and Moody for their state championships - June 11th is going to be the biggest sports day in the history of Corpus Christi," said Hooks President J.J. Gottsch. "Media outlets from all over the world will have their attention on Corpus Christi and Roger's appearance."

Clemens, a minority investor with Ryan-Sanders Baseball, is among a group of current ballplayers who have partial ownership of the Hooks and the Express. The list includes Craig Biggio, Andy Pettite, Jeff Kent and former ballplayers such as Corpus Christi's Brooks Kieschnick.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest pitchers of all-time, Clemens has won seven Cy Young Awards over his illustrious career. Clemens has more victories than any current pitcher (341) and ranks second on the all-time strikeout list (4,502) behind fellow Hooks' owner, Nolan Ryan. Clemens is scheduled to make his 2006 Astros debut on June 22 versus Minnesota.
