Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced today that the league has named P-Bruins center Jamie Arniel its Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for November. The first-year center finished the month with seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 13 games.
Arniel began November with just one point in the first five games of the month, his first professional regular season goal on November 6 in a 5-3 loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The rookie's fortunes turned around over the next six games as he scored 11 points, including goals in six straight games from November 14-25. The streak is the longest in the AHL this season and it also tied a P-Bruins franchise record, matched by three others, most recently Jason Krog late in the 1999-00 campaign. During Arniel's six-game point-streak, he registered his first five career multiple-point games, totaling two points on each occasion.
In recognition of his achievement, Arniel, 20, will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming P-Bruins home game. After his career month, Arniel now ranks tied for ninth in the league in rookie scoring with 15 points, including seven goals and eight assists. He ranks third on Providence in scoring and first among the team's rookies while appearing in all 23 games this season.
The Kingston, Ontario, native made his professional debut for Providence during the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs, appearing in eight games while scoring one goal after signing an Amateur Tryout Agreement on May 5. Prior to turning pro, Arniel enjoyed four junior seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, splitting time between the Guelph Storm and Sarnia Sting. Including the postseason, the forward suited up for 285 junior contests, posting 209 points (108g, 101a) and 161 penalty minutes. Arniel's best season was his last as he set career-highs during the regular season with 32 goals, 36 assists and 68 points for Sarnia.
Arniel was selected by the Boston Bruins 97th overall in round four of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Other nominees for the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month included Adirondack Phantoms defenseman Joonas Lehtivuori, Albany River Rats center Stefan Chaput, Binghamton Senators defenseman Craig Schira, Chicago Wolves left wing Andrew Kozek, Grand Rapids Griffins left wing Tomas Tatar, Hamilton Bulldogs defenseman P.K.
