Abbotsford Heat News Release

TORONTO ON - The Abbotsford HEAT finished off their four game road trip in style, as they shutout their division rivals, the Toronto Marlies, by the score of 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Heat opened the scoring at the 5:35 mark of the first period. After a great fore-check throughout the shift by Jason Jaffray, Colin Stuart and Carsen Germyn, Germyn was able to spot Josh Meyers alone at the right point with a cross ice feed from the left faceoff circle in Marlies territory. Meyers walked in from the right point and put a hard slap-pass out front that was neatly tipped in by Stuart. Stuart picks up his sixth of the season and the HEAT scored the only goal of the period.

In the second period, the HEAT kept it coming. Mid way through the middle stanza, Garth Murray was left alone beside the Marlies goal and was able to snap a wrist shot under the crossbar, short side on Marlies goalie Andrew Engelage. Keith Aulie set up the play with a low point shot, Murray buried the rebound and at 10:12, the lead was 2-0.

Just under two minutes later on a HEAT power play, Colin Stuart would pick up his second goal of the evening. After a Keith Seabrook slap shot from the slot was stopped by Engelage, Stuart was able to bat home the rebound to open the lead up to 3-0. With his second of the game and seventh of the season, Stuart had his team ahead by 3-0 after two periods of play.

In a scoreless third, Matt Keetley, the HEAT goaltender shut the door. Stopping nine shots in the third, and 26 shots overall, Keetley picked up his first win of the season and his first shutout in the process.

With the win, the HEAT finished their four game road trip with three wins and one loss. Abbotsford also moved into a tie for second in the North Division with their eighth road win and thirteenth win of the season.

Abbotsford will take on North Division and AHL leaders, the Rochester Americans, on Saturday and Sunday at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Game time for both games will be at 6 pm.
