Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (MAY 19, 2013) - Frisco RoughRiders relief pitcher Arlett Mavare has been promoted to Triple-A Round Rock. Frisco has also received outfielder/first baseman Barrett Serrato from extended spring training.
Mavare, 23, joined the RoughRiders on May 1 from Advanced-A Myrtle Beach and appeared in five games for Frisco. The right-hander posted an 0-1 record with an 8.00 ERA in nine innings pitched, but finished with four scoreless innings and did not allow runs in three of his five outings. Mavare struck out 17 batters and walked six, scattering seven hits in his work with the RoughRiders.
Serrato, 22, joins Frisco from extended spring training after his 2012 season with Short-Season A Spokane. Serrato hit .182 with one home run and 14 RBI in 48 games with the Indians last season. The West Chicago, Illinois native is the first 2012 draft selection of the Rangers to make it to Double-A. Taken out of Purdue University in the 30th round, Serrato played 35 games at first base and another five in the outfield in his first professional season. In college, the Boilermaker hit .325 with six home runs and drove in 49 runs on his way to a Second Team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2012 and was a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament team. His junior season, the left-handed batter garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors.
Frisco's roster remains at 24 active players, one below the Texas League limit.
Frisco returns to action Sunday at 4 p.m. and Monday at 11 a.m. Both games are against the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres), and fans may purchase tickets for either game by visiting www.RidersBaseball.com or by calling (972) 731-9200.
