Arizona Handles Mississippi 4-1

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ --- The Arizona Sundogs handled the Mississippi RiverKings 4-1 in Central Hockey League action in Prescott Valley, Arizona Wednesday, March 2nd. The game was the first meeting ever between the teams since Arizona joined the CHL.

In Wednesday's contest, there was no scoring in the first period, as the RiverKings outshot the Sundogs by a 9-6 margin.

But, Arizona took control in the second period on goals from Mark Kolanos and Jason Visser for a 2-0 lead before Matt Summers put the RiverKings on the board with a power play goal at 12:28 to get Mississippi within 2-1.

However, the Sundogs added to the lead on a goal from Joey Sides for a 3-1 lead after two periods and Luke Erickson's power play goal in the third period completed the scoring for the night.

Mississippi finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while Arizona scored twice in eight power play chances.

The Sundogs outshot the RiverKings by a 49-28 margin. Mississippi goaltender Larry Sterling stopped 45 shots in taking the loss (11-12-3), while Levente Szuper made 27 saves in posting the victory.

Next action for the RiverKings will come this Friday night at 8:05 PM Central time in Arizona. Broadcast coverage with Bob Bakken calling the action will be on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM with airtime at 7:50 PM Central time. There will also be an Away Game Watch Party at the Southaven Buffalo Wild Wings, just north of Goodman Road on Airways Boulevard.
