Arias Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

CHARLESTON, SC-The South Atlantic League has named Charleston RiverDogs left-hander Wilkins Arias the B.C. Headache Powder Pitcher of the Week for August 21- 27.

Arias started two games last week and went 1-0, pitching 14 shutout innings in the process. The southpaw now holds a 22.1 inning consecutive scoreless streak dating back to August 10.

Pitching against the Savannah Sand Gnats on Tuesday, Aug. 22, Arias threw seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits in a 2-0 win. He retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing a two-out double in the fourth inning. Arias walked only one and struck out five in the outing.

On Sunday, Aug. 27, Arias again fired seven scoreless frames, this time at Golden Park against the Columbus Catfish. Arias scattered two hits and issued three walks in keeping Charleston in a game during which neither team scored until the top of the ninth inning. The RiverDogs eventually won, 1-0.

On the season, Arias is now 8-6 with two saves in a team-leading 21 starts (30 total appearances). The 25-year-old hails from San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic.
