SAVANNAH, Ga. - Marco Estrada threw seven shutout innings as the Savannah Sand Gnats downed the Charleston RiverDogs 3-1 Monday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Monday's victory marks the first time the Gnats have strung together a pair of wins since July 31 and August 2.

The win marked Estrada's first of the season with Savannah, and the seven-inning performance was his longest of the year. The right-hander allowed just four hits and two walks and fanned five batters. Don Levinski picked up his first save of the year, giving up just one walk in 1.1 innings of relief.

The Sand Gnats grabbed their first run in the second inning when Edgardo Baez, Tim Pahuta and Adam Carr led off with three consecutive singles to set the stage for John Poppert's two-out infield hit.

Savannah added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth when Pahuta ripped a one-out triple into the gap in left-center and scored in the next at-bat on a wild pitch. With two down in the frame, Leonard Davis delivered a triple to right-center and then touched home as reliever Gabe Medina balked.

The RiverDogs scored both their runs in the eighth off reliever Gus Hlebovy on an RBI single by Ben Jones followed by a run-scoring double from Joe Muich.

The Sand Gnats and RiverDogs play Game 2 of the series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as Savannah sends left-hander Brett Nyquist to the hill to face Charleston right-hander Eric Wordkemper. Tomorrow is a Two-for-Tuesday featuring two-for-one beers. For tickets and a complete schedule visit www.sandgnats.com, or call the Sand Gnats offices at 912-351-9150.
