Argonauts Assistant GM/Director, Player Personnel Greg Mohns enthused about the Argonauts' 2006 draft, "We are extremely pleased with the way things unfolded in this draft. We got 3 of the top 15 on our draft board in the first 2 rounds."

Mohns continued, "We were happy that Federkeil was available for our first pick. Last year, we considered him and Robede the top 2 and we've been watching him for 2 years. He can play both DE and DT. He has outstanding size with good movement skills. We believe his best football is ahead of him and he has a tremendous future."

Toronto's first pick, Daniel Federkeil, commented on the draft. "I know coming into University many people had high expectations of me but I didn't understand my potential then. Now 5 years later, I'm the Argos first pick and it feels amazing. I had a good impression from the coaches at the combine and I'm glad they chose me first."

The Argonauts selected CB Leron Mitchell with their 10th overall pick in the CFL Canadian Draft. Mitchell, a star at the University of Western Ontario, is a speedy cornerback who grew up just outside Toronto in London, Ontario. He attended the University of Texas on a track & field scholarship before joining the Mustangs in 2003. In 2004, he represented Western, along with WR Andy Fantuz, at the East West Bowl.

Greg Mohns commented on Leron Mitchell, "We are tickled to be able to get him. He was one of the players we had targeted and we were thrilled he was available. He has a huge upside with great size and athleticism for his position. He is a young, budding star who will help us immediately on Special Teams."

Mitchell was excited to be drafted by the team he grew up watching, "I felt Toronto would be the perfect spot for me to go. It was an honour for me to be picked by Toronto at such a high pick. I'm just overwhelmed with emotions right now. I watch the games on TV and growing up the Argos were my team back to the Doug Flutie days. Now, I am a part of that history and it is so exciting for both me and my family."

With their 14th overall pick, the Argonauts selected LB Aaron Wagner from Division 1A Brigham Young. Wagner is a redshirt player who dressed in six games last season and started against San Diego State. He began his college career at Washington State and played in 13 games as a freshman. Wagner was also a member of the 2003 Holiday Bowl championship team.

Mohns enthused about Wagner, "He was the top-rated player on our draft board. He is a tremendous talent who runs a 4.70. He patrols from sideline to sideline with relentless pursuit."

The Argonauts selected WR Obed Cetoute out of Central Michigan with their fourth round pick. A redshirt freshman in 2003, Cetoute played five games for Central Michigan, catching 13 passes for 166 yards in 2004. He is a Montreal native who is also an outstanding water polo player.

Mohns compared Cetoute to Argos' star receiver Robert Baker, "This is a young, raw receiver with outstanding size and speed who is just really learning how to play game. He impressed us when we visited Central Michigan and impressed our coaches on tape. He is a physical blocker, with a tenacity like Robert Baker. He was another year to develop at Central Michigan and will make an impact in the future."

The Argonauts selected enormous OT Brian Ramsay with their fifth round pick. The New Mexico product was born in Victoria, BC, and towers over his opponents at 6'8", 304 pounds. He's a former member of Canada's National Rugby Team and his older brother, Dave, is currently a standout for the Canadian Senior National Rugby Team.

Mohns enthused about Brian Ramsay's CFL potential, "Ramsay could become the steal of the 2006 draft. He has very good athletic ability for a guy of his size. With a big wingspan for pass protection and his history on the Canadian national rugby team, he is another player for the future with huge upside on his development path."

Clifton Dawson, selected with Toronto's final pick in the 2006 Draft, is a running back who played Ivy League football for Harvard University. Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Clifton was a First Team All-American in 2004 and holds several school records for rushing yards and touchdowns. He attended Birchmount Park Collegiate and led his school to a Metro Bowl Championship.

Clifton Dawson's academic and athletic pedigree is exciting to Mohns, "With his natural talent, Dawson is the premiere running back for Harvard. With NFL skill and a Harvard degree, he possesses both athletic ability and intelligence. He was high on our board."

The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
