Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Chris Archer (above) continued the domination of the league's best offense with seven shutout frames, and the Biscuits (7-8) beat the Tennessee Smokies (8-7), 4-2, despite managing only three hits Thursday at Riverwalk.
Archer (4-4), facing his former team, struck out six while walking three and allowing only four hits.
John Matulia cranked a two-run homer to key a three-run fourth for the Biscuits, who managed just four hits over six innings against double-A first-timer Matt Loosen (0-1). Stephen Vogt would score on a wild pitch in the sixth after doubling to make it 4-0 before the Smokies got single runs in the eighth and ninth.
Ryan Reid (1) got the save despite allowing one run.
Vogt led the offense with a 2-4 night, with the Biscuits getting all three hits against Loosin. Kyle Smit delivered two hitless innings of relief.
The Biscuits will begin a four-game series with the Jacksonville Suns Friday at 6:05. RHP Nick Barnese will oppose Jacksonville LHP Jose Alvarez.
