Braves Late Run Sends Generals Home with Loss

PEARL, MISS. (JULY 7, 2011) - The Generals came back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game Thursday night, but the Braves run in the eighth sends the Generals home with a 5-4 loss. The Braves won three of four at Trustmark Park, taking the series.

Vinnie Catricala continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 game with a double and two runs. Catricala is hitting .452 in his first eight Jackson games. Joe Dunigan had two RBI's and finished 1-for-3, scoring a run also. Ernesto Mejia scored two runs for Mississippi, including the game winner, wrapping up a 2-for-3 night with a homer and three RBI's.

Each starter went deep into the game. General's starter Erasmo Ramirez (6-6) suffered the loss and surrendered five runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings. Ramirez walked three and struck out four. Brett Oberholtzer (5-9) went eight innings for the M-Braves, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out five and walking four in the win. J.J. Hoover worked a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

After two scoreless innings Thursday the Braves sent four runs across. Dan Nelson singled in Pastornicky for the first run and Ernesto Mejia belted a 3-run homer to left-center, giving the M-Braves a 4-0 lead.

Jackson answered right back in the top of the fourth by scoring three runs. Joe Dunigan reached on a fielder's choice that scored Catricala and Johermyn Chavez came in on the same play after an error. The next batter, Carlos Triunfel brought in Dunigan with a single to make it a one-run game 4-3.

The Generals completed the comeback in the top of the six after loading the bases, Joe Dunigan hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Catricala. The Generals tied the game at 4-4.

The Braves loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth against Ramirez and Bobby LaFromboise entered in relief. Cory Harrilchak bunted in Mejia from third to put the M-Braves up for good, 5-4.

Friday night the Generals begin a four-game series at Pringles Park against the Birmingham Barons, with game time set for 7:05 PM. Friday night there will be a Post Game High Tech Special Effects Beatles Themed Fireworks Extravaganza presented by FOX 16. Also the Generals will be wearing special purple jerseys as a part of our Alzheimer's Night. LHP Mauricio Robles (0-0, 0.00) makes his first Generals start against LHP Brett Oberholtzer (4-9, 4.18) for Mississippi.
